Space advancement of Pomerania. The region joins the network of incubators of the European Space Agency
Gdansk is joining the European league of space innovation. The region will be included in the network of ESA Business Incubation Centers – Europe’s largest incubation program for startups using space technologies. The Pomeranian Special Economic Zone has become the leader of the Pomeranian branch, which, together with a strong consortium of regional partners, will develop a SpaceTech ecosystem with international ambitions in Pomerania.
Pomerania in the European space ecosystem
ESA BIC is a program coordinated by the European Space Agency and co-financed by, among others, the Industrial Development Agency, which aims to commercialize space technologies and accelerate the development of innovative startups. Gdansk joining this network is a clear signal that Pomerania is becoming one of the key centers for the development of modern technologies in Poland.
It is not without significance that the Polish Space Agency – a central institution for national space policy – has its headquarters in Gdansk. The new ESA BIC branch strengthens the region’s position as a natural base for projects at the intersection of industry, science and space technology.
Pomeranian Special Economic Zone in the lead
The Pomeranian Special Economic Zone (PSSE), which for years has played a key role in attracting investment, supporting entrepreneurship and developing innovation in the region, has become the leader of the Pomeranian branch. Under the program, the PSSE will be responsible for coordinating incubation activities and cooperating with ecosystem partners.
Between 2026 and 2029, 9 new startups in the space and circular space sector, using satellite technology, space data and dual-use solutions, will be incubated at ESA BIC’s Pomeranian branch.
Strong consortium of regional partners
Behind the success of the project is a broad consortium of institutions and companies that bring unique competencies to the program – from infrastructure and business support, to technological knowledge and market experience. In addition to Starter Gdansk, the consortium includes:
InvestGDA, Pomerania Development Agency S.A., Blue Dot Solutions, JWP Patent Attorneys, Excento, Interizon Foundation, City of Gdynia, Pomeranian Science and Technology Park Gdynia, N7 Space, SpaceForest, WiRan, CloudFerro, and PSSE and its Gdansk Science and Technology Park.
This combination of the public sector, business environment institutions, academia and private technology companies creates one of the most complete ecosystems of support for space startups in the country.
Incubation with European flair
Startups qualified for the ESA BIC Poland program can count on, among other things, non-refundable financing of up to €50,000, specialized business and technical support, legal advice and international promotion under the prestigious ESA brand. The key value of the program, however, is access to a European network of contacts – investors, technology partners and customers.
A new chapter for the region’s economy
Gdansk joining the ESA BIC network is not only prestigious, but above all a concrete tool for economic development. Pomerania gains a platform that can attract talent, capital and high-value-added projects, and the space sector becomes another pillar of the region’s modern economy.
This proves that a consistently built innovation ecosystem – based on cooperation and specialization – allows regions from Poland to compete effectively on the European map of future technologies.
